Various Artists. Goin' Up Copper Creek. America can boast a fair number of obscure bluegrass labels, and this 24-track compilation is more than enough proof that Copper Creek is one of the best of them. Featuring several songs each by Ralph Stanley, gospel singer Rickey Wasson, the Johnson Mountain Boys, Gary and Jim Brewer, guitarist Charlie Cline, and the Swedish fiddle and banjo duo of Per Christophersson and Thomas Haglund, this is a generous sampler of great, hard-edged bluegrass. His versions of Long Gone and, especially, the hair-raising Way Down Deep are the album's highlights. Gary and Jim Brewer's style is something of a variation on the brother-duet tradition. Up the Creek is a song by American rock band Cheap Trick, released as a single in 1984 from the soundtrack of the 1984 film Up the Creek. The song was written by Rick Nielsen and Randy Bishop, and produced by Spencer Proffer. Years after its release, both Nielsen and drummer Bun E. Carlos have been critical of the song. Nielsen told John Krewson of The A. Club in 1997: Now that was a bad song I co-wrote that. no, wait, let's see. I can't remember. Maybe I actually wrote that whole thing.
