Notes

Pressed at Specialty Records Corporation (The large S surrounding R and C stamped in the run-out), also identified by smooth indent/notch approx 3/4" from edge of label and glossy finish.

Although this repressing is marked as stereo on the sleeve, on the label, and uses a Capitol stereo prefix (ST) for the matrices, this pressing used the mono mix; not a 'fold down' resulting from a production error but the actual US mono master from 1966, including the 3 "USA" mixes for tracks A2, A4 and B1. (Some Specialty pressings of Beatles VI from 1986 are similarly in mono.)

Album

Yesterday and Today also rendered as Yesterday. and Today in part of the original packaging is a studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. Released in the United States and Canada in June 1966, it was their ninth album issued on Capitol Records and twelfth American release overall. Typical of the Beatles' North American discography until 1967, the album contains songs that Capitol had withheld from its configurations of the band's recent EMI albums, along with songs that the group had. The Beatles Yesterday and Today bridged the gap between Rubber Soul and Revolver in the U. It also has one of the most expensive album covers AND TODAY features the original album cover of The Beatles posing with raw meat and baby dolls. The package also comes with a collectible sticker of the subsequent YESTERDAY AND TODAY cover art. While the Beatles were constantly touring and recording, they managed to squeeze out more U. album releases on Capitol as opposed to the U. Parlophone releasesEach distributed by EMI. Therefore meaning another photo session per album, which brings us to the sought-after LP sleeve of all time featured here. Today was the last Beatles album to be created exclusively for the American market without the group's direct consent, and its tumultuous history seemed to bring the issue of those albums to a head, both for the group and Capitol Records. Owing to business and market differences between England and America, the label had reconfigured every one of the group's long-players in America up to that point, and also generated a few LPs out of singles, B-sides, and EP tracks that had no U. equivalent on 12 vinyl - the Beatles had tolerated it all quietly in the early. Released in North America in 1966, Yesterday and Today is a compilation of songs that were removed from the North American release of other Beatles albums, without input from the band. The Beatles' displeasure with the process led to an infamous album cover art controversy. Act Naturally and Yesterday were removed from the American release of Help. Drive My Car, If I Needed Someone, Nowhere Man, and What Goes On were left off of the American release of Rubber Soul. Yesterday and Today rendered as Today on the record label and in most published discographies is the ninth Capitol release by The Beatles and the eleventh overall American release. This album is also known as the cover up album for the picture that was glued oer most of the covers. It was issued only in the United States and Canada. The album is remembered primarily for the controversy surrounding its original cover image, the butcher cover featuring the band dressed in white. The most-recent Beatles album dated back to December 1965 Rubber Soul and the next one wasn't due until the fall of 1966 Revolver . So, Capitol was getting antsy for a stopgap

Very nice sounding Mono pressing. These 80's Capitol Rainbow reissues are generally excellent, both in pressing quality and mastering.
That date seems very late for a black label with the rainbow circle around it. In fact, I sincerely doubt the date on this is correct.
Capitol was absolutely using the retro black rainbow labels in 1983. Beatles Rarities album was the first in 1980. Press to Play single(s) by McCartney and Lennon's Menlove Ave album both have them and they were later 80s, 86/87.
Some mis-pressings will be one side stereo, the other mono. Winchester issues, with a rifle or wineglass etching in the run-off area of the record, are true stereo sides.
