I had the Music on Vinyl version from 2009, bought this one, compared them, Bernie Grundman mastering beats MOVL hands down. If you can get this version in at least VG+ grading you are ready to go ????
The Most Famous Album OF ALL TIME
It's a great album.. though most famous album of all time... hardly...the most famous band of all time.. has quite a few most famous albums...that moulded music for decades of the future..the band is the Beatles!
I've got P PAL 38112-2BP PBL 38112-2CJdoes that belong here?
How are all of these different? All seem to have MJ listed as a co-producer, and have similar runouts with a P.Michael Jackson - ThrillerMichael Jackson - ThrillerMichael Jackson - ThrillerMichael Jackson - ThrillerMichael Jackson - Thriller
I have an album that has the following etchings:Side A: PAL 38112-1E Side B: PBL 38112-1GCan anyone provide any insight on how this effects the value, etc? Any info is appreciated!
deannaringlert I have an album that has the following etchings:Side A: PAL 38112-1E Side B: PBL 38112-1GCan anyone provide any insight on how this effects the value, etc? Any info is appreciated! Can't speak for value, but the matrix suffixes beginning with "1" (i.e. the 1E and 1G numbers) indicate a very early US pressing. These kinds of suffixes certainly don't seem to be commonplace - plus, given the meaning of the suffix in CBS matrix number nomenclature ("1" indicates first master tape used), it's cut from a tape closer to first-generation than that used for later copies - I've read on the Steve Hoffman forums that the copies with "-1..." matrix suffixes, like yours, have noticeably better sound quality compared to most copies of Thriller.
Rating: 10 pts.Average 4.5/5 over 10.000 ratings speaks for itself.A timeless masterpiece for modern popular music.
Around 400 different editions exists? That's ridiculous for anyone to go through that. Some sellers really try to sell this for an unbelievable price. Just go through. Worth a laugh.
d.teil Around 400 different editions exists? That's ridiculous for anyone to go through that. Some sellers really try to sell this for an unbelievable price. Just go through. Worth a laugh. That's exactly why I came here... I'll never forget, not long after MJ died someone had a copy of this listed on ebay for 10 grand.
I have a copy that has PAL 38112-2D and PBL 38112-2D does anyone know anything about this copy? I can find anything with 2D on both sides...
back in 1983 or 1984 I remember seeing a picture disc CD of Thriller that was apparently the first. Which version is that here?
My copy of this release is on super flat vinyl with a very low noise floor. Super rare light pops that will likely resolve with cleaning. Huge soundstage with excellent instrumental separation. Ample low frequencies with punchy mid-bass. Overall, the tones are warm. Highs are crisp but not bright and the vocals are detailed and natural. Awesome through 2.1. The production quality of this album is so high and with a nearly perfect mix (IMHO). I wish the vocals were slightly more out front. I highly recommend this album. Michael Jackson was a genius. (Rega Planar 3, Exact 2 cart, PSE Studio SL, Linn LK85, Linn interconnects, Linn Katans, Linn Sizmik 12.45" for 2.1)
Hi - I have a version EPC 85930 with EPC 85930 A6 and EPC 85930 B/0 etched on the runout, but I can't seem to find a version with these listed – can anyone help? Back of g/f sleeve also has CB 281, (58) , LC 0199, Interepak by Shorewood PackagingThanks!
My copy doesn't list MJJ as co producer. But etchings are: PAL 38112-IF/PBL 38112-IF. Someone has more information?
One of the greatest albums of all time. But every single copy I've had comes with dreadful sibilance.....
Obviously it's your setup, probably your cartridge. I own this and have no sibilance using a VM540ML. Stunning Pressing.
I have the promo of this album that I received from a guy who used to work for CBS Records. Is it worth more?
mrhighgrade I have the promo of this album that I received from a guy who used to work for CBS Records. Is it worth more? In short, yes. If it has a gold stamp, or some other identifiable mark showing its age and provenance (and thus that it was an original 1st press, which almost all promos are), then generally you'll find these go for higher prices on the s/hand market. Generally.
This is the biggest selling album of all time.Enough said.
My Version has the same matching matrix/runout-P PAL 38112-2A and P PAL 38112-2B but the LP sleeve did not have Promo Copy stamp on back. I couldn't find another version with same runout. Any knowledge on this would be great.
most likely what you have is a first issue, just not a promo copy
Michael Jackson - Thriller should be merged with Michael Jackson - Thriller as the first one looks to simply be a variant of the 1st US pressing release. I tried merging them myself, but it wouldn't take the 726 release code for some reason and kept saying to enter two valid release IDs. I don't know.
Definitely Michael Jackson's best album, with hit after hit!!
I opened a sealed copy of this release, and found a weird glitch: Billie Jean as a "gap" before the first course...! It jumps without a scratch or a click :( tried cleaning to make sure, nothing helped.Does anyone farmiliar with this issue?
Mine too thought it was a scratch. I guess it's not!
Same thing on mine as well. Cannot get it to clean
The amount of issues (subs) is beyond out of hand and quite ridiculous! so many merges are needed!!! mostly runout variants... near impossible to find which issue one has... In my opinion, Discogs should review releases with more than 100 issues to ensure Database integrity...
Question about the US vinyl edition of this. I've owned two copies, and I've seen other copies of it. There is a curious spiral pattern visible on the vinyl groove of "Billie Jean." Anyone else noticed this? I've always wondered what that is.
I know this is 5 years later. But, I believe the answer to your question is that the beat is SO pronounced on "Bille Jean" that you can actually see it on the record. The timing of the beat just happens to make a spiral pattern.
I am guessing you are not experienced with records in general? Patterns can be found on ALL records, both irregular or regular types.
GalaxyExplorer Question about the US vinyl edition of this. I've owned two copies, and I've seen other copies of it. There is a curious spiral pattern visible on the vinyl groove of "Billie Jean." Anyone else noticed this? I've always wondered what that is. the strong slower beats of "Bille Jean" simply creates a physical pattern on the vinyl that is visible. Gotta love analog.
It's pretty normal for Disco pieces to do that. Given that the "bright" area of the grooves are high frequencies, which are repeated with a very steady tempo, such as hi-hats and snares, during the cut the offset between track tempo and 33.3 RPM can create several different "spiral" effects. Since Billie Jean is pretty straight to 118 BPM with not much "orchestral" or other lively material it's is much prone to evidence this phenonema.
Promo copies are not worth more? Or didn't I find it?
Highest selling album of all time,Follow up to the funky Off The Wall album, my personal favourite.Quality productions throughout.
NOTES:"Wanna Be Startin' Something" contains uncredited samples of "Soul Makossa" performed by Manu Dibango"Thriller" contains uncredited samples of "Give It to Me Baby" performed by Rick James"Billie Jean" contains uncredited samples of "Do It Again" performed by Steely Dan and also "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" performed by Hall & Oates"Who wrote this shit?? There were no samples on "Thriller". Q. Jones has said in interviews he was "inspired" by other records, like the Rick James track (and you can clearly tell) but samples.... Idiot.
https://youtu.be/yzgvJlsEyvQAt the 6:40 mark you will hear the sample that Quincy used for the “Beat it” intro.
LOL!! There is a HUGE difference between sampling, and re-playing or "covering". There are no samples of any other recordings on "Thriller"..AT ALL.
Why are you hating?
