"Mystery Disc" compiles tracks originally released on two separate vinyl records that were included in the mail order "Old Masters" box sets (Box One released April 1985 and Box Two released November 1986).
The CD omits two tracks from the box sets, "Why Don'tcha Do Me Right?" and "Big Leg Emma", both of which were included on the CD version of Absolutely Free (tracks 8 & 9).
These recordings cover the early stages of Zappa's career, and were made between 1962 and 1969 (with the exception of "The Story of Willie the Pimp", recorded in 1972). (See scans for further details).
Tracks 1, 12 & 29 are also on "Lost Episodes" (tracks 1 & 12 in slightly different versions), tracks 21 to 26 are edits of "Ahead of Their Time" material, and track 32 is a different edit of a "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore #5" track.

Mystery Disc - Frank Zappa. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Mystery Disc is a compilation album by Frank Zappa. It was released on CD in 1998, compiling tracks that were originally released on two separate vinyl records and included in the mail order Old Masters box sets, which were released in three volumes between 1985 and 1987. These box sets, issued on Barking Pumpkin, contained repressings of Zappa's albums from Freak Out 1966 to Zoot Allures 1976, along with a 'Mystery Disc' in boxes one and two. The CD omits the last two tracks from the 1985 LP. Between 1985 and 1987, Frank Zappa released a pair of mail-order vinyl box sets called Old Masters that contained remastered and restored versions of all of his albums between Freak Out and Zoot Allures. Each box contained an album of previously unreleased material called a mystery disc. Although he eventually reworked and remixed a handful of these cuts for subsequent releases, the majority of these recordings were never again released in any form. The Mystery Disc CD album concentrates on the early output of Frank Zappa and almost all 35 tracks are pre-Mothers of Invention recordings. Most are very short dialogue pieces or badly recorded blues or rnb songs and the most interesting parts of the album already appear on other recordings like Ahead of Their Time 1993 and Lost Episodes 1996. So to be quite honest I find The Mystery Disc to be a totally dispensable album and I wouldnt even recommend it to the hardcore fans. Sure theres the occasional hilarious dialogue or nice little sec
