1.The steady growth of scale andadd new members to our big family.Throughout the year, 84 Chinese School and Confucius Classroomsin primary and secondary schools were
established, including 6 new countries,i.e. Luxembourg, Surinam, Uruguay,Andorra, Mauritius,and Panama. Up tillnow, there are 511 Chinese School and 1,073 Confucius Classrooms in 140countries. The number of full-time andpart-time China-sent and local teachersreached 46,000, with the number oflearners 2.1 million. We have becomethe most comprehensive, inclusiveand influential language and culturalcommunity in the world.
2.Continuous improvement ofteaching quality and new progressin three teaching-related areas. Wevigorously implemented tests for theCertificate for Teachers of Chineseto Speakers of Other Languages, with all China-sent teachers certified.The nurturing and training of localteachers were strengthened and nearly5,000 Confucius Institute scholarshiprecipients around the world wererecruited. We translated and publishedreference books in 64 languages, suchas My Chinese Picture Dictionary,Essential Chinese Dictionary:800 Chinese Characters. We havedeveloped more than 2,000 localizedtextbooks in total by far and uploadedmore than 300,000 Chinese languageand cultural courses onto the ConfuciusInstitute Online. The number of Model Chinese School reached 43, whichact as the flagships for Chinese School worldwide.
3.Enrichment of teachingfunctions and better services. Whileteaching Chinese language, Chinese School around the globe also stageda myriad of cultural activities, reachingan audience of 13 million. We organized15,500 foreign teachers and studentsto visit China and experience Chineseculture. 160,000 youths from differentcountries participated in the “ChineseBridge” Competitions. ConfuciusChina Studies Program sponsored morethan 200 young students to pursuetheir Ph.D. or do research in China. 67 Chinese School dedicated theirfocus on business Chinese, traditional
Chinese medicine, Chinese martialarts, fine arts, tourism and vocationaltraining etc. Many Chinese Schoolsorganized academic lectures andinternational conferences on topics
related to the “Belt and Road”Initiative. They proactively facilitatedtrade and economic exchanges betweentheir host countries and China, as wellas substantial cooperation betweensister provinces/states. The Chinese School’ capacity in languageteaching, cultural exchange, academicresearch and social service has madea remarkable improvement.
4. Optimized operationalmechanism and new platforms forexchange and cooperation. Individual Chinese Schoolholds meetingsbetween Chinese and foreign CouncilMembers on a regular basis andproactively subject themselves to self-evaluationor third-party audit, inorder to operate with full transparency,improve management level andobtain social recognition. The regionalcollaboration was enhanced by holdingjoint conferences in 8 regions such asthe North Europe, Latin America,andOceania, and 6 national conferencessuch as in the UK, France,and Russia.Teaching experience and resources wereshared effectively on those occasions.More than 80 Chinese School setup alumni associations with a totalmembership of over 50,000. MoreChinese and foreign companies areactively supporting or participating inthe development of Chinese School via donation in cash or in kinds, suchas the construction of the teachingbuildings at the Confucius Institute atAgostinhoNeto University with theassistance of CITIC Construction andthe construction of the Audi–ConfuciusInstitute Ingolstadt in Germany,infusing new vigor into the sustainabledevelopment of Chinese School.
